KUCHING, July 14: Stronger Malaysia-Australia tourism links are on the horizon as Total Holiday Options (THO) is keen on reigniting Australian consumers’ interest in Malaysia.
In a Facebook post, Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Malaysia, Dato Seri Tiong King Sing, said this followed in-depth discussions with THO during his working visit to Sydney, Australia.
During his discussions with THO’s global chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director, Amaan Khan, and global director of sales and marketing, Anita Thomas, Tiong said they expressed interest in strengthening bilateral tourism collaboration between both countries, particularly in boosting the number of Australian visitors to Malaysia.
He added that Khan shared that THO is a pure B2B (business-to-business) company with signed agreements with several major travel groups in Australia, and its network also extends to the New Zealand market.
“Having operated in both Australia and New Zealand for over 25 years, THO has earned invaluable trust and experience in the industry. At present, they work with over 400 registered mobile travel agents (MTAs) in Australia, some of whom are already collaborating with the Sabah Tourism Board to promote tourism products,” said Tiong.
Tiong, who is also the assemblyman for Dudong and Bintulu MP, said that THO is currently preparing a series of roadshows to be launched across major Australian cities and regional markets starting this September.
He also added that, according to Khan, the road shows are aimed at reigniting Australian consumer interest in Malaysia, which is at the top of many Australians’ travel wish lists.
“I agreed with their sentiment and invited them to propose their promotional strategies and forms of collaboration based on their understanding of the market.
“The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture will fully support and ensure follow-through. I look forward to both sides working together to chart a new course for Malaysia-Australia tourism,” he said. — DayakDaily
