Street art project adds colourful touch to Kuching Waterfront

The newly-painted bollards set a welcoming tone for visitors to the Kuching waterfront.

KUCHING, April 5: A work of art has been created for the Kuching Waterfront, adding colourful bursts of vibrant colours to the popular tourist site.

Following the installation of 43 bollards to enhance safety, the Kuching Waterfront Management commissioned Universiti Sarawak Malaysia’s (UNIMAS) Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts to create an iconic work of art.

The team of 20 students led by lecturer Mohamad Faizuan Mat were invited to further brighten the bustling Kuching Waterfront area by turning these 43 bollards into canvases for colourful paintings.

The street art project initiative is multi-faceted as elements of Sarawak motifs such as its flora and fauna were presented.

The team was given a free hand to express themselves and they completed the project in two days.

In a press release yesterday, Kuching Waterfront Management said the purpose of the project was to further beautify th Kuching Waterfront landscape.
