KUCHING, June 19: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) jumped to the top 101-200 universities in the world in the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, thanks to its clear strategic direction, evidence-based policies, and a deep commitment to sustainable development.
According to a statement from UNIMAS posted by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), this achievement represents a significant improvement for UNIMAS, which was previously ranked 401–600 in 2023, rising to the 301–400 in 2024, before jumping to the 101–200 this year.
“This continuous improvement since 2023 reflects UNIMAS’ ability to align its institutional strategy with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“This improvement is driven by an evidence-based approach, structured monitoring, and an emphasis on sustainable impact in research, teaching and community service,” said the statement issued on Thursday.
UNIMAS further explained that among the key achievements that strengthened its position in this year’s THE Impact Rankings include its 16th position in the world for SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals, which recognises the university’s excellent efforts in strengthening strategic collaboration networks across sectors and borders.
UNIMAS is also ranked 36th in the world for SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, highlighting the institution’s commitment to governance with integrity and transparency.
Two other significant achievements are the 81st position in the world for SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy and the 94th position in the world for SDG 2: Zero Hunger, demonstrating the tangible impact of UNIMAS’ research and community initiatives in addressing energy issues and food security.
UNIMAS also showed consistent performance in several other SDG goals such as SDG 13: Climate Action, SDG 14: Life Below Water, and SDG 15: Life on Land, all of which are in the 101–200 group in the world. – DayakDaily
