KUCHING: Sarawak Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (Dapsy) is co-organising with Brilliant Inspiration Academy (BIA) to hold a seminar on Sales and Service Tax (SST) here next weekend.
Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii said since the implementation of SST on Sept 1, feedback received by the DAP indicated that certain quarters were still confused with the regulations.
“There are people who are still unsure if some businesses should charge SST or not. So, we are taking this initiative to invite two speakers from the Customs Department and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) to give talks and explanations on the SST and the rights of consumers,” Yii told a press conference here today.
The invited speakers are Customs Sarawak senior assistant director (SST Division) Noelle Lily Morse and KPDNHEP Sarawak chief (Price Control and Anti Profiteering Unit) Robin Emerson Empurai. Noelle will be talking about SST and the technical details of it, while Robin will touch on consumers’ rights.
Dr Yii urged members of the public to participate in the seminar. Admission is free but they need to get tickets from the Sarawak DAP headquarters or call 082-335532. The tickets are also available at BIA’s office in Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce/Jalan Keretapi between 9.30am and 4pm. BIA can be reached at 082-239738.
The seminar will be held on Sept 29 at Pullman Hotel, beginning 6pm, and Dr Yii will launch it.
On BIA, Dr Yii said the academy was focussed on delivering knowledge while encouraging and activating intelligent human capital. It also links the academy with the workforce and industry with the core principles of intelligence and trust.
“BIA’s main objective is to ensure participants would take responsibility for their own learning to benefit all related parties,” he said. — DayakDaily
