STIDC to jointly hold Sarawak Young Designers webinar on Oct 21

KUCHING, Oct 16: The Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and Fakultas Seni Rupa dan Desain (FSRD), Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Bandung, Indonesia will jointly organise a webinar on October 21.

STIDC, in a statement today, said the event on Sarawak Young Designers entitled “Road to Sarawak Young Designers (SayD’SignersSarawak)):Designs, Industry, Passion and New Hope” themed Good Art is a Talent, Good Design is a Skill will be held from 9 am to 12.30pm through https://bit.ly/2FmYFBU

The webinar is meant to create awareness on SayD’SignersSarawak two-year training programme that has been developed and implemented by STIDC since 2018, targeting university students and young designers in Sarawak who have the passion and keen interest to pursue career in design especially in the furniture design.


“It is our hope that this forum will be able to give some insights on the future outlook giving new hope and aspirations to the young designers in pursuing their career as a designer especially in the post Covid-19.

“The programme is also intended to publicise SayD’SignersSarawak Training Programme among the students to attract their interest and their participation in our training programme,”  STIDC general manager Hashim Bojet said.

Six interesting papers will be presented, among them will be the professional designers from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Jakarta, Indonesia who will share their ideas and their rich experiences.

A special panel session “Young Designers – New Hope and The Way Forward” by professional designer Prof Datuk Ian Davis @ Iskandar Abdullah, who is also the managing director of ArcRadius Consulting Sdn Bhd, will lead panel discussion on the opportunities giving new hope and future direction in the design profession.

Meanwhile, STIDC welcome interested designers and university students and fresh graduates to join this forum.
