JULAU, June 6: Police here have arrested two men who are suspected to have molested and raped an underage girl.
The arrests came after the victim’s mother lodged a police report on June 5.
In a statement today, Julau district police chief DSP Andam Sulin said the complainant in her report claimed that the victim’s stepfather and a foreigner had molested her 14-year-old daughter who has a disability at about 6.45pm on June 4.
“The two men were arrested on the same day the complainant filed her report,” he said.
Andam said the Sarikei Magistrate’s Court had granted a seven-day remand on the two suspects.
The case is being investigated under Section 376 and 376B of the Penal Code.
If the suspects are found guilty, the offence under Section 376 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of not less than five years and not more than 20 years while Section 376B provides for an imprisonment of not less than six years but not more than 20 years, and also liable to whipping.
“We will not compromise with anybody who commit any offences against children. We also hope the community will work responsibly with us in overcoming rape and sexual assault effectively,” said Andam. — DayakDaily
