SIBU, Aug 7: Two men learned a hard lesson that crime does not pay.
The Magistrate’s Court here today fined them RM2,000 and RM1,000 respectively after they pleaded guilty to stealing a box of frozen Patin (catfish) worth RM90.
Both accused could not pay the fine and instead received jail time.
The first accused, Mohammad Syaiful, 40, is to serve the two months’ jail while the second accused, Mohammad Faizal, 36, one month in prison.
Magistrate Oon Kork Chern were told that the accused persons stole the item weighing 10 kilograms (kg) from a supermarket in Sibu Jaya on July 21 at about 10.21am.
They were jointly charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code which is read together with Section 34 of the same code.
The section carries an imprisonment of up to seven years or with a fine or both.
The first accused was arrested on Aug 2 near the Kampung Hilir roundabout, while the second accused was arrested the next day at a house in Sibujaya.
The arrests came after the supermarket managed lodged a police report. — DayakDaily
