KUCHING, March 17: Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) today participated in the ITB Berlin Convention 2022, the world’s largest travel trade fair, in order to increase Sarawak’s visibility among travellers and tourism players from around the world.
STB, along with local travel and tour operators from Sarawak’s southern, central, and northern regions, networked with traders from around the world at the ITB Berlin Digital Business Day 2022, an international virtual marketing trade show at the Sarawak stand housed in Kuching Waterfront Hotel.
The one-day event brought together industry experts, buyers and sellers from around the world to discuss the future of tourism and business.
According to STB chief executive officer (CEO) Sharzede Salleh Askor in a statement, STB’s goal in participating in this travel trade fair was to expand its knowledge on digital, sustainable, and resilient solutions within the tourism ecosystem with experts in the field.
“Sarawak’s presence in ITB Berlin Convention 2022 is timely with the recent announcement of Malaysia’s borders reopening by the federal government.
“This platform gives us and the travel and tour operators, the opportunity to engage with a global audience as we prepare to welcome international travellers, who contribute to our industry’s recovery,” she said.
She said that they are all committed to making Sarawak a sought-after tourism destination.
“We hope the continuous resilient spirit among Sarawak industry players will push and accelerate the progress of rebuilding our industry.
“STB is fully committed to supporting the ongoing tourism recovery, with sustainable tourism strategies at the core,” Sharzede added.
Prior to today’s event, ITB Berlin hosted the three-day ITB Berlin Convention Day from March 8 to 10 as a platform for top speakers from the travel industry to guide and provide perspectives for the industry’s future.
The Future & Resilience track, E-travel track, and Responsible Tourism track were among the topics covered.
