KUCHING, March 17: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap is urging Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen to assist in improving the poor drainage issues of Kota Sentosa which is also under the latter’s constituency.

Yap said he has taken proactive steps to address the local issues and wishes for Democratic Action Party (DAP) would do the same to help the people, rather than fish for support through cheap publicity.

“As newly elected YB for N12 Kota Sentosa, I am taking proactive steps to systematically settle the poor drainage and other problems in N12 Kota Sentosa left over from the last 15 years.

“Hoping that the MP for Stampin would also assist,” he said in a media social post yesterday (March 16).

He was responding to DAP Youth chief Michael Kong’s statement yesterday who called out local councils in Kota Sentosa, urging them to take action to address filthy drains and drainage issues.

Yap, in another post, expressed amusement to have read Kong’s statement and said the illegal and indiscriminate throwing of rubbish has been a long, outstanding issue raised by himself on many occasions.

He said the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) had also dealt with many such cases to clear rubbish and blockades in drains and roadsides.

“Instead of cheap publicity by complaining and raising issues through the media, it would be better and more productive if DAP assisted by educating their supporters and our community not to throw rubbish indiscriminately.

“On my part, I will bring the matter up to MPP again for their further action. Hoping that the public plays their part by disposing rubbish in proper bins,” he said. — DayakDaily
