KUCHING, July 28: The Sarawak-level National Day and Malaysia Day (HKHM) this year will take place at Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) at Jalan Badruddin here on Aug 3.
Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to officiate at the event at 9.30am.
With the theme ‘Malaysia Madani: Tekad Perpaduan Penuhi Harapan’, the celebration is organised by Sarawak Information Department (JaPen) in collaboration with Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB).
It is a continuation of the launch at the national level by Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof at Sultan Azlan Shah Circle, Meru Raya, Ipoh, Perak, on July 16.
According to a statement by Sarawak JaPen, the event include the recitation of Rukun Negara pledge, a ‘War Cry’ performance by the PDRM and the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), as well as a ‘Fire Cry’ by the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), in addition to a joint flashmob performance by Pentarama JaPen Sarawak, Sarawak National Arts and Culture Department and Kuching Polytechnic (POLIKU).
At the event, Sarawak Premier is expected to flag off the ‘Konvoi Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang’ (KKMJG), where the convoy would depart from IPK Sarawak to several State divisions, including crossing the border up to Sipitang, Sabah.
“On Aug 3, the KKMJG 2023 will begin their journey from Sarawak JaPen headquarters at Jalan Diplomatik to IPK Sarawak before going to Sarawak Federal Secretary Office, JBPM Sarawak headquarters in Tabuan Jaya, and circling the Kuching city.
“KKMJG 2023 will continue their journey on Aug 8 from Sarawak JaPen headquarters to Serian, Sri Aman, Betong, Saratok and Sibu; followed by Sibu, Tatau and Bintulu (Aug 9); Bintulu, Miri and Limbang (Aug 10); Limbang and Lawas (Aug 11); Lawas and Sipitang (Aug 12); Sipitang and Lawas (Aug 13); Lawas, Brunei Darussalam and Bintulu (Aug 14); and return to Kuching on Aug 15,” it said.
There are also programmes being organised at every stop, such as ‘Semarak Gemilang’ held at Sarawak Federal Secretary Office, Sibu and Lawas, as well as ‘Merdeka@Parlimen’ and ‘Special Infiesta Pentarama’ in Lawas.
