KUCHING, Jan 12: The Sarawak Health Department is in the midst of increasing Sibu Hospital’s capacity to accommodate Covid-19 patients.
Sarawak Health Department director Dr Chin Zin Hing when contacted said other facilities such as Kem Belia Kemuyang may be used as an alternative to accommodate Covid-19 patients.
āWe are freeing up more beds for Covid-19 patients in the hospital (Sibu Hospital).
āAt the same time we are using the Kem Belia Kemuyang as a low risk treatment and quarantine centre. We are also preparing to set up more centres,ā Dr Chin revealed.
Dr Chin disclosed this when asked to respond to the issue of the Sibu Hospital reaching its full capacity in accommodating Covid-19 patients.
According to Sibu Municipal Council chairman Clarence Ting, Sibu Hospital is running out of space to house all the Covid-19 patients.
Ting said in view of current needs, the authorities are now considering using other venues to accommodate the patients.
He thus urged the public in Sibu to take extreme precautions by following Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) strictly.
Ting also anticipated Covid-19 cases in Sibu will surge in the next few days. ā DayakDaily
