State govt presents RM9 mln annual grant to Chinese schools

KUCHING, June 9: The Sarawak government handed over a RM9 million grant to the Sarawak United Association of Private Chinese Secondary School Management Boards in Kuching today.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg presented the grant to Kuching Chung Hua Middle Schools No. 1, 3, and 4 management committee chairman Datuk Richard Wee at the former’s office at Wisma Bapa Malaysia, Petra Jaya.

Also present were Minister for Local Government and Housing, Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian and Kuching Chung Hua Middle Schools No. 1, 3, and 4 management committee members.

Abang Johari has promised to give annual grants to Chinese schools beginning 2018. The practice started with RM7 million in total and increased by RM1 million annually.

In 2019, RM8 million was given. — DayakDaily
