KUCHING, April 17: State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) will only know the decision whether to close certain schools in Sarawak from the State Education Department latest by Monday (April 19).

SDMC chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the committee has already submitted its proposal to the State Education Department along with the number of schools with Covid-19 positive cases among the students.

“Our (SDMC’s) proposal has been submitted to the State Education director and we are waiting for a decision from them.

“I think we should be able to get it by tomorrow, or latest by Monday. We have submitted to them the number of schools where the students are found Covid-19 positive,” he said during a press conference on Covid-19 update today.

He was responding to a question from the press on SDMC’s actions to appeal for the closure of schools in Sarawak seeing that many students and teachers have been found positive for Coronavirus in recent months.

However, when a follow-up question asked whether the proposal by SDMC is to close all the schools in Sarawak, Uggah confirmed that it was a ‘No’.

“Not all schools (are to be closed),” he said. — DayakDaily
