State Covid-19 fatalities breach the 100th mark, 308 new infections logged today

KUCHING, March 25: The Covid-19 death toll in Sarawak has breached the 100th mark with two more fatalities in Sibu today.

According to reports by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the patients who passed away involved a 72-year-old Sarawakian female and an 88-year-old Sarawakian male, both with co-morbidities.


Meanwhile, Sarawak recorded an additional 308 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours with the most number of 66 positive cases occurring in Serian.

Other districts seeing new Covid-19 cases were Bintulu (60), Sibu (58), Meradong (46), Miri(40), Kuching (11), Samarahan (8), Beluru (5), Betong (4), Kapit (3), Bukit Mabong (2), Julau (2), Sri Aman (2) and Sebauh (1).

Briefly, 136 cases were detected following close contact screenings where 16 of them were symptomatic.

Another 124 cases were individual screenings from existing active clusters where five showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

Adding on, 29 cases were from other screenings in health facilities, 18 cases were from symptomatic tests in health facilities and the remaining one was an Import-B case from other states in Malaysia.

With that, the cumulative number of positive cases in Sarawak now stands at 14,963.

SDMC also noted 187 new recoveries in Sarawak from Sarikei Hospital (34), Sibu Hospital (33), Kapit Hospital (32), Miri Hospital (30), Sarawak General Hospital (27), Bintulu Hospital (18), Serian Hospital (11), Sri Aman Hospital (1) and Limbang Hospital (1).

There are now 2,711 patients who are still receiving treatment in hospitals across the state. —DayakDaily
