KUCHING, Dec 29: Sarawak civil servants received their bonus of one-and-a-half-month basic salary just before Christmas.
According to several recipients, the timing was apt as it came in handy for the festive season as well as for their children’s education needs.
“We are very thankful to the Sarawak government for the bonus. On our part, we will continue to serve the people with care and diligence,” they said on condition of anonymity.
The bonus was announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg during his winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly sitting last month. The amount was one-and-a-half-month of basic salary or a minimum of RM2,000.
The initiative benefitted roughly 24,000 state civil servants, including those working with the state statutory bodies and councils.
According to State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Morshidi Abdul Gani, the bonus this time around was the biggest so far for the state’s civil service. — DayakDaily
