KUCHING, Nov 5: Members of the public, especially hawkers and small traders, have requested that the threshold for e-invoicing be increased to RM500,000, claims Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen.
āStarting Jan 1, 2025, e-invoicing will be implemented for businesses with turnover between RM25 million and RM100 million, and starting July 1, 2025, e-invoicing will be implemented for businesses with a turnover between RM150,000 to RM25 million.
āThe threshold of RM150,000 for businesses to be compliant with e-invoicing policy is far too low. Smaller businesses with limited IT (information technology) infrastructure and lower resources will struggle with the technological demands,ā he said during the Budget 2025 debate at Parliament today.
Chong, who is also Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman and Padungan assemblyman, said any trader or hawker with an average gross revenue of RM420 per day will be above the threshold.
He elaborated that most hawkers do not have any IT equipment for invoicing and with the implementation of the policy, many will be compelled to incur additional expenses to procure the necessary equipment and software.
āIt is thus the request of the general public, especially those hawkers and small traders, that the threshold be increased to RM500,000,ā he said. ā DayakDaily
