KUCHING, March 20: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap recently joined a team from the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) to visit St Margaret’s Church Stampin here to verify the progress of construction on the new church building, which is currently 30 per cent completed.

According to a press release, the visit was made because the church’s building committee is seeking an additional grant of RM4 million from Unifor to help with the upcoming progress works payment.

“To date, Unifor has approved and disbursed RM700,000 to St Margaret’s Church Stampin,” read the press release.

It went on to say that Sarawak is unique in that it has Unifor, which is in charge of regulating policies to promote inter-religious harmony as well as evaluating, proposing, and formulating policies, laws, and regulations pertaining to other religions in Sarawak.

“For this year, Unifor has been allocated RM110 million to assist other religions.

“Although the GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) Sarawak government has succeeded in building a strong multi-religious and multi-racial society, the community should not take that success for granted and instead should continue to build on that effort.

“This unity and spirit of goodwill should be emulated and become a model that has the value of sustainability, courtesy, and respect for each other,” it said. — DayakDaily
