KUCHING, July 3: St Joseph’s Private Schools’ (SJPS) award-winning choirs and ensembles will take centre stage in the much-anticipated biennial concert ‘Rhythm and Colour: Wonder – Seeking Truth, Goodness, and Beauty’ to be held at Dewan Majma Kuching on Aug 2 and 3, 2025.
According to a press release, the audience will be taken on an immersive journey of wonder and inspiration by the schools’ award-winning choirs—the SJPS Chamber Choir and St Joseph’s Private Primary School Choir—Gold Award winners and Grand Prix finalists at the recent Sarawak International Choral Festival held in Kuching.

The showcase will also feature musical performances by the acclaimed SJPS Concert Band, Chinese Orchestra, and String Ensemble, along with inspiring dances by prize-winning ballet, cultural, and contemporary dance troupes, among others.
“This event is held in collaboration with the Sarawak Arts Council (Majlis Seni Sarawak, MSS) under the MySeni scheme—an initiative aimed at promoting and nurturing the growth of local arts and culture.
“The showcase highlights the diverse talents of students from St Joseph’s Private Primary School, St Joseph’s Private Secondary School, and St Joseph’s International School.
“Rooted in the tradition established by the La Salle Brothers, who ran St Joseph’s School in the 1950s and 60s, these concerts aim to foster community spirit while cultivating life skills and teamwork through the performing arts as part of a holistic education,” the press release stated.
Creative director Benedict Lo shared that this year’s theme draws inspiration from the butterfly.
“The butterfly is a creature familiar to all of us, yet it never fails to evoke a sense of wonder—especially in young children.
“The performing arts have the power to inspire reflections on truth, goodness, and beauty, while awakening awe and inspiration.
“This is what the concert organisers hope the audience will experience through this immersive event,” he was quoted as saying, adding that students involved in the school productions are given the opportunity to be more creative and imaginative, and to aspire toward building a better future together.
To ensure the legacy of the performing arts continues in the schools, a new school block equipped with modern music and dance studios is currently under construction.
All proceeds from the concert will go towards the School’s Building Fund.
Those interested in attending the concert may purchase tickets, priced at RM50, RM80, and RM120, via Cloudjoi at https://www.cloudjoi.com/shows/3470-rhythm-colour-wonder/.
