KUCHING, June 28: St Joseph’s Private School emerged champion in the 19th Swinburne Sarawak Inter-School Debating Championship 2024’s (SSIDC) Senior Category.
Represented by its Form 4 and 5 students, Glenys Wong, Michelle Ting Chiong Sung, and Rachael Chai Xin Ru come on top of Lodge School Secondary School debaters on the topic ‘This House supports the romantic relationship with Artificial Intelligence (AI)’.
Michelle Ting Chiong Sung was also named as one of the Top Five Best Debaters in the preliminary round of the category together with Joelle Marissa Hii Siang from Lodge School Secondary School, Debra Kok Chia Chyi and Lau Lim Ler Shuen, both from SMK Green Road, including Qadeja Laila Sofyan Qarmizi Sofyan from SM Sains Kuching Utara.
In the Junior Category involving Form 1 to 3 students, Kolej Yayasan Saad Melaka was crowned as the champion, followed by Kolej Abdillah as the runner-up.
The Top five Best Debaters in the Junior Category were named Leann Yii Zhen and Vellan Yue Yaang, both from SMK Lutong, Owen Chong You Chen from Chung Hua Middle School No. 1, Cheryl Chan Yi Xuan from SMK Lutong, together with Jood Ammar Sazzli Shahlan and Badrul Ariff Badul Akmal, both from Kolej Yayasan Saad.
Among others, in the Senior Category, Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School won the title Most Promising Team, while the Most Improved Team title went to SMK Batu Lintang Senior Team 1, and Best Sarawakian Team went to Lodge School Secondary School.
For the Junior Category, the Most Promising Team title goes to Borneo International School Junior Team 2, while St Joseph’s International School Junior Team 1 get the Most Improved Team title. The Best Sarawakian Team goes to Chung Hua Middle School No. 1 Junior Team. ā DayakDaily
