KUCHING, April 3: St Joseph Private Primary School emerged the overall champion after scoring 512 points in the ‘Third PASC Inter-Primary School Swimming Competition’ held on April 1.
SJK Chung Hua No. 4 which was the reigning champion for the past two consecutive years placed first runner-up after scoring 475 points, while SJK Chung Hua No. 2 grabbed second runner-up position with 453 points.
Power Aquatics Swimming Club (PASC) president Tan Kun Gee in a press statement today expressed his congratulations to the winning schools, while noting that a total of 240 pupils from 30 schools had taken part in this year’s event.
“We also saw more competitors this year, as evident by the 21 per cent increase in participation compare to last year. This shows that more children have shown interest in taking up swimming lessons, and swimming as a sport has already spread to rural areas besides urban areas. So we are expecting more participants in year 2019,” he said.
He also expressed his appreciation to Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian and Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah for their presence during the opening and closing ceremonies of the event.
“We would also like to say thank you to our sponsors namely Lee Onn Group, Milo@Nestle, Dato Wee Hong Seng, Dato Sri Charles Voon, Yen Sze Wei, Lim Aik Chai Electrical, Rewi Bugo and One Ideal Solution,” he added.
According to Tan, out of 100 events contested, the PASC swimmers had created 16 out of 42 new individual records set during the competition.
The swimmers are Cayden Mineve Chin, Dabria Teo, Dylan Leong, Janice Tan, Darren Leong, Ong Zong Lian, Bibienne Ong, Casper Tan, and Julius Abbas.
From the 12 best boys and girls, six are from PASC. They are Cayden Chin (Boy-Primary 2), Dylan Leong (Boy- Primary 3), Janice Tan (Girl-Primary 3), Darren Leong (Boy-Primary 4), Casper Tan (Boy-Primary 5) and Bibienne Ong (Girl-Primary 5).
“The PASC club will be sending swimmers to the ‘26th Brunei Age Group Championship’ in Brunei which will be held from April 20 to 22,” said Tan. — DayakDaily
