KUCHING, Sept 4: The Sports Village for the Para Malaysia Games (Para Sukma XXI) Sarawak is now 80 per cent prepared to host the event, scheduled to run from Sept 22 to 28.
The biennial event is expected to attract 2,111 athletes and officials from 15 contingents across the country.
Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah stated that 20 hotels in Kuching are also ready to accommodate 1,290 Para Sukma athletes, predominantly from other states.
She emphasised that these preparations are aimed at ensuring that Sarawak offers comfortable lodging and exceptional hospitality for the athletes.
This includes wheelchair-accessible pathways, essential amenities in passenger lifts, accessible food cafeterias, and well-equipped in-room facilities.
“The Sports Village is 80 per cent ready as we are retaining the same committee from the recent Sukma. Their roles remain unchanged, so they bring valuable experience, with only minor adjustments being made to cater specifically to the needs of our para athletes,” she said in a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).
Fatimah shared these details after inspecting the hotel rooms at the Raia Hotel and Convention Centre on Tuesday (Sept 3).
As co-chairman of Para Sukma Sarawak, she also noted that all 27 other committees from the previous Sukma will be retained for their experience, with necessary modifications made to address the unique needs of para athletes. — DayakDaily
