KUCHING, March 17: Speed traps and roadblocks will be implemented from time to time on the Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway (LPB) to further increase road user awareness and driving ethics.

Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) in a Facebook post on March 15 disclosed the decision was made following a meeting with Serian District Police Headquarters (IPD) Traffic branch.

ā€œApart from that, JKR Sarawak has instructed the contractor to make some improvements in the Traffic Management Plan (TMP) along the road such as adding traffic signs (speed limit, parking prohibition on road shoulder), adding street lights in dark areas that have crash risk (in P-turn) and installing reflective delineators,ā€ it said.

The speed limit on LPB Sarawak roads is only 90km per hour while the speed limit on flyovers is 60km per hour.

Meanwhile, in another post today (March 17), JKR Sarawak said the contractor involved has taken immediate action in improving the management of traffic around the Serian I and Serian II flyovers.

It added, among the actions taken were adding yellow lines (transverse yellow bars) to get road users to slow down their vehicles when approaching the flyover, installing flexible plastic bars at P-turn junctions and increasing the number of traffic signs in areas where accidents often occur. ā€” DayakDaily
