Speed Titans bag 15 gold, 12 silver, 2 bronze medals at 49th S’wak Age Group Swimming Championship

KUCHING, March 20: Speed Titans Swimming Club (STSC) bagged 15 gold, 12 silver, and two bronze medals in the 49th Sarawak Age Group Swimming Championship.

STSC in a statement today said the club was competing under the Kota Samarahan Amateur Swimming Association (KOTAS) banner in the three days championship (March 17-19) held at Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre.

Darren Leong who won five gold and six silver medals set a new record in the ‘Boys 13-14 50m Breaststroke’ event with a 30.40s finish, besting the 30.92s record set by Tang Chong Heng in 2011.

He also clocked 1:07.86 in the 100m Breaststroke event, besting the 1:08.85 record set by Tang in the same year.

His younger brother Dylan also won four gold, two silver and two bronze medals in the Boys Group 2 (ages 13 to 14) category, while Max Chew in Group 4 (ages nine to 10) took home an impressive six gold and four silver medals.

Meanwhile, STSC president Dr Chew Kian Peng said outstanding performances from the young swimmers have earned them a spot to represent their State (Category A) at the upcoming Malaysia Invitational Age Group Swimming Championships at Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur on April 13 to 16.

According to him, their performances is a great achievement for STSC which was only established recently and is already showing promising results.

“We are very proud of the performance of our young swimmers at the Sarawak Age Swimming Championship.

“It is a testament to their hard work and dedication, as well as the guidance and support provided by Club coach Qiu Li,” he said.

The Speed Titans Swimming Club is open to all aspiring swimmers, from beginners to experienced athletes.
