SIBU, July 13: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) President Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh will seek the advice of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on his resignation from the Cabinet.
He said the decision was made after the delegates of Annual Delegates Conference resolved to let him make the decision.
“I have said in my speech to the delegates that I don’t have the moral standi to represent the party in the cabinet because all my arms and legs have been chopped off. So it is only a matter of political integrity that I should resign.
“The delegates passed a resolution saying that they will leave it to me to decide whether or not I will resign and when I will resign.
“Let me say this, I will seek Chief Minister’s advice. It was he who appointed me. You know, the appointment of ministers is the prerogative of Chief Minister. So if I want to leave, I will seek his advice,” said Wong at a press conference after PSB’s Annual Delegates’ Conference today.
Wong is presently holding two portfolios – Second Finance Minister as well as International Trade and E-Commerce Minister.
“So I will soon talk to the Chief Minister, seeking his advice as to when and how I can leave the cabinet,” said Wong.
Wong said this in response to a question raised by the press on what was his next move.
On his future, Wong said he will continue to be party president without holding a cabinet post.
“I am still the party president, working hard to unite all leaders and members under one umbrella of PSB to move forward.”
“As I have said, the road ahead for PSB is very wide and our future is going to be very bright. I am very confident,” said Wong who refused to comment further on former PSB Deputy President Datuk Dr Jerip Susil who resigned on July 11.
On July 11, the Sarawak cabinet passed the new list of councillors and council chairpersons where none of PSB leaders or members was named.
In the same afternoon, Dr Jerip dropped a bombshell, announcing his resignation from the party. — DayakDaily
