KUCHING, Dec 28: Some 2,000 applications for the setting up of Federal Village Community Management Council (MPKKP) in Sarawak have been submitted to the Ministry of Rural Development for approval.

Minister of Works Baru Bian said that the candidates, who have been approved, will be sent to undergo training in January to prepare them to serve the community under MPKKP which is set to be implemented next year.

“Once the training is completed, they can serve the community effectively. As we all know, they will be the people who are going to channel information between the federal government and the community in Sarawak and the country as a whole,” he said.

Baru, who is also Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak chairman, highlighted this at a press conference regarding the release of ‘Bungai Ngerembai’ Iban film at a restaurant here this afternoon.

“There are about 5,000 potential candidate throughout the state. But it (the procedure) will take time to accept more applicants and also depending on the longhouses and villages we have,” he added.

He also pointed out that allocations will be provided to the MPKKPs to carry out their tasks but they will need to apply from the Ministry.ā€” DayakDaily
