MIRI, September 7: A soldier was arrested yesterday for allegedly abusing his 10-year-old adopted son sexually, including sodomising and forcing him to perform oral sex.
Police collared the 34-year-old suspect at about 12.30pm, and the Miri Magistrate Court today granted a seven-day remand to facilitate investigation.
The arrest was made after the boy’s adopted mother lodged a police report on the same day, after learning of the alleged incident while at Miri Hospital, where the boy is being treated for suspected physical and sexual abuses.
Sources said the victim’s mother worked as a bird’s nest collector, and she and the suspect divorced in May this year. Since they split, the boy has been staying with the suspect.
It is understood that the boy told his adopted mother that the suspect started sexually abusing him since last month.
The offences are framed under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences against Children Act 2017. — DayakDaily
