KUCHING, Feb 2: The Social Welfare Council of Sarawak (SWCS) has appealed to members of the public, especially the youths, to join the council as volunteers.

According to its president, Chi Poh Yung, besides strengthening the council, volunteers could also help champion the rights of those in need.

He said this after a courtesy visit with the council’s new executive committee members to their patron, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, who also is the Minister of Women, Childhood, and Community Well-being Development Sarawak, at her ministry today.

Speaking to reporters, Chi expressed appreciation for everything the ministry has done to assist them in their efforts to help the less fortunate.

“The council applauds the ministry for all the SWCS projects that have been carried out in Kuching,” said president Chi Poh Yung.

Chi added that SWCS received calls from those living on the streets.

“Now they have a (temporary) place to stay before they can continue their lives. We want to applaud the ministry’s efforts on that, too,” he added.

On the courtesy call, he said it was to brief Fatimah on their previous and forthcoming activities and to ask for support and advice.
