Social movement results in 21 contracting Covid-19 as Kampung Semerah Padi Cluster emerges

KUCHING, May 26: Social movement between family members, work colleagues and social circles has resulted in a Covid-19 outbreak at Kampung Semerah Padi Phase 1 here with 21 people infected so far.

This thus triggered the Kampung Semerah Padi Cluster in Kuching here, which is one of the four new Covid-19 clusters reported in Sarawak today.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update report on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, informed that the virus has spread among family members, work colleagues and social friends linked to the index case.


As of today, a total of 103 individuals have been screened whereby 82 tested negative and no test results were pending.

All the positive cases were referred to the Sarawak General Hospital and admitted to the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Kuching District for treatment and isolation.

SDMC also declared the end of the Tabuan Melayu Cluster in Kuching here after no new local cases were reported in the past 28 days.

With one cluster ended and four new clusters emerged today, there are currently 87 active clusters in Kuching, out of which 14 clusters recorded an increase in daily infections with 95 new cases.

The clusters are Jalan Selirik in Kapit which added 39 more cases, Putai in Bukit Mabong (19 cases), Emperan in Selangau (10 cases), Jalan Simpang Tiga in Kuching (6 cases), Kampung Semerah Padi in Kuching (4 cases), Jalan Endap Sawit in Samarahan and Jalan Lilin in Miri (3 cases each), Jalan Dato Permaisuri in Miri, Jalan Sukma in Kuching, Beladin in Pusa and Melugu in Sri Aman (2 cases each), while Sebujok in Sri Aman, Tebedu Mawang in Tebudu and Bukit Temedak in Pakan has one case each. — DayakDaily
