KUCHING, May 6: People will only be allowed to gather in groups with a maximum of five in public places starting tomorrow until May 17, as Sarawak takes stricter measures by activating a circuit breaker to stop the march of Covid-19 across the State.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, emphasised that the decision to tighten existing standard operating procedures (SOPs) under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) was made after evaluating the risks and given the current increasing trend in Covid-19 infections.

The stricter SOPs will come into effect tomorrow (May 7) until May 17 and be applicable throughout Sarawak on top of the general SOPs issued on April 26 as well as other restrictions implemented in certain districts such as Sibu, Miri, Bintulu, Betong and Kapit.

Apart from stricter rules on social gatherings, all tourism activities and physical meetings in hotels and other institutions are not allowed throughout the circuit breaker period.

Social events, seminars, corporate events and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions), except for official government functions, are also not allowed.

SDMC also advised Sarawakians to postpone their inter-state and inter-district travel plans during the circuit breaker period considering that MCO has been declared in Kelantan, Selangor, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and some areas in Johor, Terengganu and Perak. — DayakDaily
