KUCHING, July 27: Social activist Peter John Jaban has lodged a police report against a former teacher for allegedly slandering his personality as an activist.
The report was lodged at the Jalan Simpang Tiga police station here this afternoon.
According to Peter John, the individual had through a Facebook posting made serious allegations and defamatory statements that he is racist.
“The alleged slanderer is out to incite racial hatred against me and the Iban community by saying that I hate and dislike the Dayak Bidayuh,” he said in a statement today.
Peter John, who is Global Human Rights Federation Malaysia deputy president, has urged the police to probe the matter.
“On the day in question, I did not utter any remark that was racist in nature but only challenged some groups to lodge a report against someone who is able to have their citizenship and native status easily,” he added.
The alleged incident happened on July 22 during a dinner meeting of several non-govermental organisations (NGOs) at a seafood restaurant in Pending here.
Peter John advised netizens to use the social media wisely to avoid legal action and creating unnecessary ruckus among members of public just to gain a cheap publicity.
“I also advised all Malaysians to stop creating or fanning racial and religious issues,” he said. — DayakDaily
