KUCHING, Oct 11: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) is likely to field some new faces in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).

PRS Youth chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan, however, said the potential candidates are not new to politics or the party, apart from the party incumbents.

“Our potential candidates’ list is in the good hands of our president (Datuk Joseph Salang) and will be submitted to our Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) anytime this week,” he said in a statement today.

Yesterday (Oct 10), Prime Minister Datuk Patinggi Ismail Sabri Yaakob dissolved Parliament after obtaining the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to make way for GE15 nearly a year ahead of the deadline for a general election.

Snowdan believes that all the GPS component parties including Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) are ready with their respective candidates’ list by now or even earlier.

“We are just waiting for them to reach the Premier’s Office.

“Nonetheless, PRS will leave it to our Premier to endorse it. We strongly believe the Premier will exercise his prerogative when it comes to finalising the most winnable candidates,” he added.

With GPS components using a common logo, Snowdan who is Balai Ringin assemblyman emphasised that the coalition will deliver and retain the mandate from the people.

“Our artillery is similar and so is our mission. With the support from every GPS component party member and a well organised election machinery, we go for election to win it and not otherwise,” he added.

PRS currently has two MPS, namely Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong for Hulu Rajang and Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang for Kanowit.

Within the ruling party coalition, PRS has traditionally been allocated six parliamentary seats including Hulu Rajang, Kanowit, Lubok Antu, Julau, Selangau and Sri Aman. — DayakDaily
