KUCHING, Oct 11: The unpredictable weather will not be much of a problem for polling in Serian, says Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn.

“For Serian, I think it will be not much (of) a problem. Even if you have floods in Serian, so far the most that we have will last for about one day or two days and that’s it.

“I’m sure the Election Commission (EC) will know what to do if the situation gets worse,” he told reporters at a press conference after the opening ceremony of the 12th Asian Conference on Lactic Acid Bacteria (ACLAB12) held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today.

When asked to comment on the voter turnout rate for Serian in the possible event of a flood, Sagah, who is also Sarawak Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) and Tarat assemblyman replied that the weather was an unpredictable factor.

“I don’t know, I’m not God. But I think it rains everyday (because) our country is where rain is always available.

“Although we have some dry seasons, but now it has become really unpredictable. You may even have rain during the dry season and you can have dry season during the monsoon season.

“Perhaps, as what people say, this is all due to climate change. So (it is) actually quite difficult to predict whether it will really rain or not (during polls), and how much rain it will be,” he added.

Asked on PBB’s traditional Bidayuh-majority Federal seat — Puncak Borneo — Sagah said the party will ensure its win and that the candidate will be from the party.

The Puncak Borneo seat was previously a PBB stronghold held by the late Datuk Seri Dr James Dawos Mamit before the seat was won by Datuk Willie Mongin who contested on a Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) ticket in the 14th General Election in 2018.

Willie who is also the Federal Plantation Industries and Commodities Deputy Minister left PKR in February 2020 and joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in March 2020.

On Aug 6 this year, Willie has been accepted as a member of PBB. Therefore, the seat is now under PBB.

Under the Puncak Borneo seat, all three State constituencies are held by PBB members namely Datuk Dr Jerip Susil (Mambong), Sagah (Tarat) and Miro Simuh (Serembu). — DayakDaily
