BAU, Aug 19: SMK Lake is currently undergoing upgrades involving 42 new classrooms and a student hostel as part of its preparation for a single-session system.
Tasik Biru assemblyman Dato Henry Harry Jinep said the school aims to eliminate the current system of morning and afternoon classes.
“I would like to inform you about the latest development of the replacement building project which has expanded from 27 classrooms to 42 classrooms.
“Our objective is to have a single session—no morning, no afternoon,” he said during his visit to SMK Lake today.
The RM79 million Full Replacement Construction Project of SMK Lake project, undertaken by Eden Empire Development, involves an expansion of 42 classrooms, student hostel accommodating 300 students (200 male and 100 female) along with an administration and academic block, prayer hall, dining hall and other supporting facilities.
The project has achieved 63.45 per cent completion, falling slightly behind the scheduled 75 per cent due to the conditions of Bau’s limestone terrain.

Despite that, he expressed his confidence that the project remains on track for completion on January 25, 2026.
Harry said as Bau continues to grow, this development was needed where students can learn in a better environment—free from flooding disruptions.
“With Pan Borneo Highway coming up, more people will go back to the village to build their houses and the population will increase.
“Hence, we need more schools,” he added.
The Deputy Minister for Transport Sarawak stated that all parties should be working together closely to ensure quality and safety standards are met.
He also highlighted the importance of maintaining the existing building for other purposes needed by the school.
There are no safety incidents that have been reported to date, all due to strict monitoring by on-site officers.
“I will continue to monitor the development of the project with the implementation agency, the contractor and the school,” he stated.
Once the project is completed, it will be one of the biggest schools in the Bau area which supports the advancement of education in the Tasik Biru constituency for the benefit of the local community. — DayakDaily
