SIBU,May 29: Eateries in Sibu are being warned to cease the use of old tableware starting in June, as the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) will begin confiscating outdated plastic and melamine crockery from coffee shops and restaurants.

During the council’s full board meeting today, SMC chairman Clarence Ting emphasised that the council will enforce this measure without prior warnings.

He noted that some dining establishments continue to use visibly tainted tableware.

“We encourage eateries to throw them away and buy new ones,” he advised.

Ting also revealed that the council’s ‘No Plastic Straw’ policy is still in effect.

“I have been informed that many coffee shop operators are back to their old habits of using plastic straws when serving beverage. Our policy is still in effect so eateries have to stop giving out plastic straws,” he added. — DayakDaily
