KUCHING, Jan 24: A Sibu Municipal Council staff stationed at SMC Depot has been tested positive for Covid-19.

This was revealed by SMC chairman Clarence Ting in a statement posted on his Facebook yesterday (Jan 23).

With the detection of that one new case, he said, SMC Depot would be closed with immediate effect until proper cleaning and sanitisation works are completed.

Compulsory sanitisation arrangements to be made according to instructions by SDMC.

While sanitisation arrangements are being made, Ting urged all council staff working at the depot and those who have had close contact with the person to go for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) swab tests.

“In compliance with the SOP (standard operating procedures) issued by the SDMC (State Disaster Management Committee), it is compulsory that all council staff at the depot and close contacts are to do PCR swab tests and to strictly follow the Health Department’s requirements, instructions or SOPs.

“SMC hereby advises these groups of individuals to undergo the compulsory PCR swab tests. SMC staffs are reminded to adhere to this instruction.

“Failing which, actions will be taken, including reporting to the Ministry of Local Government & Housing Sarawak and the SDMC,” he asserted.—DayakDaily
