KUCHING, March 27: A small fire broke out in an event hall of a hotel at 4th Mile here today, forcing the closing ceremony for the Action Plan to Curb Rabies 2024 event to come to a halt.

According to the staff of the hotel, the fire was caused by a short circuit in one of the ceiling bulbs, igniting a spark that later turned into flames.

Swift response from the staff ensured the fire was promptly extinguished and prevented from spreading.

The attendees within the event hall were immediately evacuated for their safety and were directed to assemble outdoors until it was confirmed safe to re-enter the building.

However, the closing ceremony was ultimately cancelled in the aftermath of the small fire. — DayakDaily
