KUCHING, May 7: SJK Chung Hua No. 3 Kuching won the overall champion title in the 6th PASC Inter-Primary School Swimming Competition held at Pandalela Rinong Aquactic Centre in Petra Jaya today.
The school scored 529 points followed by SJK Chung Hua No. 5 in second with 384 points, and SJK Chung Hua No. 4 in third place with 381 points.
Apart from that, SJK Chung Hua No. 3 Kuching also won the best men’s group category with 303 points, while the best women’s group category was won by SJK Chung Hua No. 4 with 256 points.
A total of 228 participants from 27 primary schools throughout Sarawak including SK Al-Amin, SKA Ibnu Khaldun, Mahad Tahfiz Tun Abdul Rahman and SK Agama Sri Aman took part in the competition.
Speaking during the prize presentation ceremony, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu said that the organisation of swimming competitions between primary schools is part of efforts to make Sarawak a sports powerhouse in swimming.
“This effort is an important platform to identify the hidden potential of the athlete starting from a young age,” said Gerald whose speech text was read out by Sarawak Youth and Sports Ministry deputy permanent secretary Dolhadi Marzuki who representef the former at the competition’s closing ceremony today.
He added the Sarawak government is serious and committed to providing the best facilities and developing an effective talent search programme so that Sarawak achieves the best performance possible in swimming sports either at the national or international level. — DayakDaily
