Six Ramadan bazaars confirmed in MPKS areas

KUCHING, March 31: Six Ramadan bazaars have been confirmed in Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) areas.

MPKS chairman Dato Peter Minos said the locations are in DUBS Uptown Desa Ilmu, Kamek Miak Sarawak (KMS) bazaar, Stakan Bazaar, RH Park Batu 9, TTK Mart bazaar Asajaya and Doraemart bazaar at Taman Samarindah Baru.

“MPKS is expecting more requests from the Asajaya and Sadong Jaya side and will entertain requests only from a recognised body or a responsible committee.

“This is partly to ensure public safety, cleanliness, waste management and proper upkeep of every bazaar,” he said in statement today.

He added the council is also pleased that many are participating in the Ramadan bazaars in Samarahan.

“This also enable traders to earn a bit more for the coming Hari Raya celebration,” he said.

Meanwhile, Minos said MPKS will be organising a two-day talk and workshop programme on how to make Samarahan safe, clean and green.

The programme will be held from April 11 to 12, and will be officiated by Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Sim Kui Hian.

He said the focus of the workshop will be educating the public on how to dispose their waste in the bins and RoRos (Roll-on Roll-off) provided, not to throw rubbish on the roads and roadsides, drains, open spaces, streams and rivers, including touching on illegal dumping.

“These old cultures are very bad and must be discarded. If the Singaporeans and Japanese can do it, so can we. It is all in the mind,” he said. — DayakDaily
