SAMARAHAN, Sept 5: Simunjan Hospital, the leading healthcare facility serving the Batang Sadong constituency, needs a new paediatric ward after its old building is no longer deemed safe for use and occupancy due to sinking land.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin noted that the request for a new ward is urgent as there is near 100 per cent bed occupancy for the paediatric ward in the hospital.

“Thus, we will work hard to include the project in the fourth rolling plan of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) for 2024.

“However, a study on the land must be conducted first to ensure that there is no issue on the land identified for the new building and its structure,” he said in a press conference at Simunjan Hospital in Samarahan here today.

In the meantime, he also mentioned that the Ministry of Health (MOH) had approved several requests from Simunjan Hospital, such as the provision of an electrocardiogram (ECG) machine, vital sign machine, ultrasound machine, mortuary freezer, incubator, centrifuge, blood bank refrigerator, OT table, OT light, fluid warming cabinet, upright bike, hydrocollator, sealer machine, baby digital weighing scale, and mediation trolley.

Earlier today, Khairy and a delegation from MOH visited three clinics under the Batang Sadong constituency — Semera Lot Clinic, Sadong Jaya Clinic and Simunjan Hospital, as well as Gedong Clinic.
