KUCHING, Nov 24: A total of 2,306 people participated in “Silent Run 2024” throughout Sarawak in support of deaf athletes.
According to a press release, Sarawak Deaf Sports Association successfully organised the charity run in Kuching, Miri and Sibu.
The community event aims to raise public awareness of the financial needs of deaf athletes in Sarawak for training and participation in sporting events both domestically and internationally.
“This charity event successfully attracted the attention and participation of 1,030 people in Kuching, 649 people in Sibu and 627 people in Miri,” it said.
The Silent Run 2024 in Kuching held today was officiated at by Sarawak Deputy Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development (Community Wellbeing) Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam and Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.
In his opening speech, Mohammad Razi expressed his pride in the success of deaf athletes in Sarawak for successfully organising such a meaningful community event.
He also called on all parties including corporations and the public to provide strong support to the association so that the athletes’ performance can be improved through training and complete infrastructure.
Finally, he expressed belief that deaf athletes in Sarawak have great potential to achieve encouraging results in sports events both nationally and internationally in the future. — DayakDaily
