KUCHING, Oct 4: Sarawak reported a local Covid-19 transmission from Sibu.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a press statement revealed the patient from Sibu came to Kuching for work.
The committee said the patient had undergone a medical examination and Covid-19 swab test at the Samarahan Health Clinic on Oct 2 before starting work.
His rapid test polymerase chain reaction (rt-PCTR) results for Covid-19 came back positive on Oct 3.
Prior to his arrival in Kuching, the patient worked at a shipyard in Sibu until Sept 30.
The committee explained that the case has been registered as a case from Sibu based on the patient’s past movement although he was identified in the Samarahan district.
With this confirmation, Sibu is now a Covid-19 yellow zone with one case and the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak has increased to 717.
Meanwhile, SDMC disclosed that there are 16 patients being treated in hospital isolation wards. There are two new Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) cases with one case awaiting laboratory test results.
A total of 120 Persons-Under-Surveillance (PUS) were registered into hotels today to undergo quarantine.
A total of 1,029 PUS are undergoing quarantine at 12 hotels throughout Sarawak, with 24,843 PUS so far having completed their 14-day quarantines. — DayakDaily
