KUCHING, April 21: Sibu is set to open this year’s Sarawak powerboat racing calendar with the Sibu International Powerboat Race 2025 (SIPBR2025), scheduled to take place from April 25 to 27 at the Pulau Li Hua Waterfront.
According to a TVS news report, Sibu Resident Abang Mohamad Porkan Abang Budiman said the event, organised by the Sibu Resident’s Office through the Divisional Tourism Task Group (DTTG) Sibu, will feature both local racers and international participants from Brunei Darussalam.
“With the theme ‘D’Awakening of The Mighty Rajang River,’ the event symbolises the revival of the Rajang River — once quiet, now brought back to life with the roar of powerboats and an atmosphere full of adrenaline,” he said during a press conference held at the Sibu Resident’s Office today.
A total of 262 participants will compete in eight race categories involving both low- and high-powered boats, including the Formula category which is expected to deliver fierce competition.
To ensure visitor comfort, three free shuttle buses will operate every 15 minutes throughout the event period.
“The public is advised to park at Li Hua Commercial Centre and use the shuttle service as access to the event site will be restricted to vehicles with special passes only,” he added.
The event will also feature a variety of side activities, including a children’s colouring contest, a community Zumba session, lucky draws, and food and drink stalls, creating a festive atmosphere for all attendees.
Abang Mohamad Porkan emphasised that SIPBR2025 is more than just a water sports event — it serves as a unifying platform for the community, a driver for tourism, and an economic opportunity for local traders.
He expressed confidence that with the support of organisers, government agencies, strategic partners, and the local community, SIPBR2025 has the potential to become a high-impact annual event eagerly anticipated by the public.
“We warmly welcome everyone to join us in making SIPBR2025 a vibrant celebration packed with thrilling action, entertainment, and memorable experiences for all,” he said. — DayakDaily
