The first charge involved the misappropriation of RM1,530 collected from a 67-year-old male client for ambulance services. The offence occurred between March 12, 2024, and March 5, 2025, at the society’s office along Jalan Foochow 1.

In the second charge, Bonia was accused of dishonestly misusing RM4,260 in service payments from another client, a 57-year-old man. This offence took place between February 9, 2024, and March 19, 2025, at the same location.

Both offences were framed under Section 408 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of between one and 14 years’ imprisonment, whipping, and a possible fine upon conviction.

Judge Afidah sentenced Bonia to one year’s imprisonment for each charge, ordering the sentences to run concurrently, starting today.

According to the facts of the case, a representative of the organisation filed a police report after discovering that the accused, then serving as a nursing assistant, had failed to hand over collected payments for ambulance services.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Fadzri Azham Zainudin prosecuted, while Bonia was represented by counsel Athur Liang Dawat.

The case was investigated by Inspector Lai Hwa Yen and Sergeant Steven Kamarau. — DayakDaily
