Sibu sees drop in daily Covid-19 cases from 47 to 13

KUCHING, Feb 1: Daily toll of Covid-19 cases in Sibu has dropped to 13 cases since yesterday’s record of 47 cases.

At the same time, Miri got ahead of Sibu in the highest daily toll of Covid-19 cases, registering the most number of 20 among 105 throughout the state today.

According to the reports from State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Sibu with 13 positive cases was also surpassed by Bintulu (19) and Lundu (14).

Other districts with positive cases are Kapit (11), Meradong (8), Song (6), Bau (2), Kanowit (2), Serian (2), Kuching (1), Samarahan (1), Matu (1), Julau (1), Pakan (1), Dalat (1), Beluru (1) and Subis (1).

Remaining as the biggest cluster in Sarawak, the Pasai Cluster originated from Sibu continues its spread to seven districts today namely Lundu with 14 cases, Kapit (8), Sibu (5), Bintulu (4), Miri (2), Kanowit (1) and Beluru (1).

Rakut Cluster cases were detected in Bintulu (4) and Miri (3) while the new Bintang Daily Cluster registered five cases in Meradong.

Similarly related to active clusters, Bau reported two new cases involved with the Tabong Cluster and Serian also recorded two cases linked to the Bedayan Cluster.

Meanwhile, the number of positive cases among medical staff increased again today, infecting four in Miri, one each from Sibu and Julau.

As those tested positive after developing symptoms were found in Miri (3), Bintulu (1) and Kapit (1), another eight cases were reported to have been tested in various health centres across the state.

Out of the eight, three were in Sibu, one each in Meradong, Song, Pakan, Miri and Bintulu.

Three individuals returning from Covid-19 high-risk areas such as Pahang and Selangor were traced in Subis (1), Kuching (1) and Bintulu (1).

The remaining cases are results from close contact tracing of Covid-19 positives found in Bintulu (8), Miri (7), Song (5), Sibu (4), Kapit (2), Meradong (2), Kanowit (1), Matu (1), Dalat (1) and Samarahan (1).

With 105 new Covid-19 cases today, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak now stands at 4,555.

SDMC, in its daily Covid-19 statement, also reported one fatality case involving a 77-year-old Sarawakian male who had medical history of Stage 4 chronic lung disease.

On the other hand, Sarawak reported 143 new recoveries who have been discharged from Sibu Hospital (95), Sarawak General Hospital (21), Miri Hospital (18) and Sarikei Hospital (9).

In the meantime, 1,664 patients are still receiving treatment in hospitals across the state.

There are 142 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases and 59 cases awaiting laboratory test results.

There are also 525 persons-under-surveillance (PUS) who were registered into various hotels across Sarawak to be quarantined, and a total of 5,714 individuals under quarantine in 79 hotels throughout Sarawak while 59,057 PUS have completed their 14-day quarantine. — DayakDaily
