Bintang Daily Cluster emerges in Meradong

KUCHING, Feb 1: The State Health Department has confirmed a new Covid-19 cluster in Meradong District in Sarikei division.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a press statement today, the new cluster is known as the Bintang Daily Cluster and involves family contacts and workplace contacts to Case 3,612.


The index case was identified following Covid-19 screening of symptomatic individuals at the Bintangor health clinic on Jan 23. Results for the man returned positive for Covid-19 on Jan 26.

The committee revealed that the active case detection (ACD) exercise has identified seven more Covid-19 cases.

A total of 46 individuals linked to the cluster have been swabbed, with eight testing positive, three testing negative and 35 others awaiting laboratory test results.

With the emergence of this new cluster, SDMC said there are currently a total of 12 active clusters in the state.

They are Bintang Daily, Jalan Pengiran, Tabong, Indah Riang, Bedayan, Rakut, Bukit Sekubong, Jelita, Pasai, Keranji Tabuan, Stutong and Bah Sayap.

The Pasai Cluster in Sibu continues to lead the daily count of new cases with 35 confirmed today.

This is followed by the Bintang Daily Cluster with eight new positive cases, Rakut (7), Bedayan (2) and Tabong (2).

The remaining seven active clusters in Sarawak comprising Jalan Pengiran in Matu, Indah Riang in Kuching, Bukit Sekubong in Sebauh, Jelita in Miri, Keranji Tabuan in Kuching, Bah Sayap in Miri and Stutong in Kuching did not report new cases. — DayakDaily
