Sibu residents told to expect dry taps starting Sept 25 due to repair works

SIBU, Sept 23: Most parts of Sibu town will be without water supply from 10pm on Friday (Sept 25) due to repair works to be carried out by the Sibu Water Board (SWB).

SWB in a statement today revealed it intended to carry out replacement of 700mm diameter outlet electromagnetic flowmeter at the Bukit Lima Treatment Plant and repair the 500mm diameter main pipe leaking opposite Catholic High School from 10pm on Friday until the completion of works.

It added that the work will be carried out if the weather permits, otherwise it will be carried out the next day.

Affected areas include Jln Alan, Jln Lanang and its Lane, Lau Boon Loong Wharf, Lrg Lanang 61 and its Lane, Lrg Lanang 59, Jln Ubah, Jln Semayur, Jln Ek Dee and its Lane, Jln Merbau, Jln Pelaie, Jln Meranti, Jln Petir, Jln Aman and its Lane, Jln Dungun, Jln Adam, Jln Nyatuh, Jln Kwong Tung, Jln Tekam and its Lane, Jln Bunga Mawar and its Lane, Jln Selangan, Jln Chong Sang, Jln Kapor and its Lane, Jln Jongkong, Jln Amoy, Kingwood Hotel, Tanahmas Hotel, Paramount Hotel, Kawan Hotel, Li Hua Hotel, Golden Happiness Restaurant, Jln Chengal and its Lane, and Jln Teo Chong Loh.

Other affected areas include Sacred Heart (C) Primary School, SK Rendah Uk Daik, Jln Uk Daik, Jln Rhu, Jln Bukit Assek and its Lane, Jln Long Bridge, Catholic High School, Jln Maju, Jln Hii Kah Tung, Jln Mission, Jln Tan Sri, Jln Tong Sang and its Lane, Jln Luku and its Lane, Jln Mahsuri and its Lane, Jln Chew Siik Hiong and its Lane, Jln Dr Wong Soon Kai and its Lane, Jln Khoo Peng Loong, Jln Chamber, Jln Channel, Jln Lembangan, Jln Rakyat, Jln Market, Jln Chew Geok Lin, Jln High Street, Jln Workshop, Jln Pulau, Jln Blacksmith, Jln Temple, Jln Wharf, Jln Bank, Jln Lintang, and Rejang Port Authority.

Meanwhile, residents of Jln Kg Hilir and its Lane, Land and Survey Department, Jln Awang Ramli Amit and its Lane, SMC Food Stall (Harmoni), Jabatan Penjara Sibu, Sekolah Rendah Bantuan Agam, SK Abang Ali, St Mary’s Church, Jln Fong Ming, Jln Keranji, Jln Sepetir and its Lane, Jln Jelutong, Jln Hose, Jln Intan and its Lane, Jln Sebuyau, Jln Buloh, Jln Sg Kerbau, Jln Bangau, Jln Nanas, Jln Isau, Jln Alu-Alu, Jln Mandan, Jln Perpaduan, Jln Bunga Melor, Jln Circular, Jln Palm, Jln Rambai and its Lane, Jln Ling Wen Shun, Jln Terap and its Lane, Kin Orient Plaza, Jl Bindang, Jln Kai Peng, Jln Sie Poi Kheng and its Lane, Jln Embang, Jln Kawi, Jln Bunga Raya, Jln Lily, from Jln Delta until Kg Nangka (included SWB Deshon Booster), and from Sg Merah until Bawang Assan (included Jln Apollo, Jln
Kulas, Jln Lilin and surrounding areas, SWB Teku Booster and SWB Sibu West Booster) will also be affected by the water supply disruption.

“During repair work, portions of the Lanang main road from junction of Jalan Long Bridge until junction of Jalan Tan Sri (near to Tai Shan Lai Cafe) will be closed to traffic,” the statement read, adding the board would strive to complete the works as soon as possible.
