In a news report by Ukas, Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing lauded the initiative for its role in advancing Malaysia’s domestic tourism agenda.

“The Rajang River is not only the lifeblood of the local community but also a symbol of Sarawak’s cultural richness and traditions.

“This event allows us to enjoy the region’s natural beauty while highlighting water sports as a major tourism attraction,” he said in a speech delivered by his representative, Agatha Ting, during the opening ceremony at Pulau Li Hua Waterfront on Friday (Dec 13).

Sibu RC Powerboat Race River Challenge 2024 attracted 137 participants competing for the Batang Rajang title.

The three-day event has attracted 137 participants representing 59 teams from both Malaysia and abroad, competing for the prestigious Batang Rajang title.

Tiong, who is also the Dudong assemblyman, reiterated the Malaysia government’s unwavering support for such initiatives.

“The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (Motac) remains committed to strengthening the sports tourism sector, particularly water sports, as a cornerstone of Malaysia’s tourism industry. Through digital platforms and promotional campaigns, we aim to draw more international visitors to Sarawak,” he said.

He emphasised that sports tourism not only boosts tourism but also creates jobs, increases local incomes, and fosters healthier lifestyles.

“I am confident this event will evolve into a larger, more prestigious annual competition, attracting even more participants and tourists from across the globe,” he added.

Beyond the races, the event features an RC Powerboat exhibition, food and beverage stalls, and exclusive souvenir sales by DTTG Sibu, enhancing its appeal to visitors. — DayakDaily
