Sibu police seize RM45,720 in drugs, arrest two suspected drug traffickers

SIBU, Oct 18: A man and a woman in a four-wheel-drive vehicle were arrested in the garage of a house in Lorong RTM on Friday (Oct 16) on suspicion of being involved in drug trafficking activities.

Sarawak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) chief ACP Jasmirol Jamaluddin revealed police seized 890.57 grammes of ketamine, 2.80 grammes of Erimin 5 and 65 pills (30.3 grammes) of Ecstasy pills with an estimated value of RM45,720.

Police also confiscated RM6,426 in cash as well as a four-wheel drive vehicle with an estimated value of RM40,000. Apart from that, the police also seized a necklace with an estimated value of RM5,360, a bracelet worth RM4,450, three gold rings with a total value of RM63,246.


According to Jasmirol, acting on information received at around 8.20pm earlier that day, the police team raided the premises and detained the two suspects.

The 34-year-old male suspect is a businessman while the 29-year-old female suspect is a hairdresser. They were brought to the Sibu District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division Office for further action.

“A preliminary urine screening test on the male suspect came back positive for drugs, while the woman was negative for drugs. Both suspects did not have a previous criminal record,” Jasmirol added.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and, upon conviction, shall be punishable by death or life imprisonment and shall, if not sentenced to death, be punished with not less than fifteen strokes of rottan.
