Sibu, Mukah flood evacuee numbers rise slightly, flood situation eases in other parts of Sarawak

KUCHING, Feb 6: The number of flood victims in Sibu and Mukah rose slightly overnight, while in other areas across Sarawak, more evacuees are beginning to return home.

According to reports by the Civil Defence Force (APM), the number of flood victims in Sibu district rose to 1,142 as of 8am today, up from 876 evacuees reported at 8pm last night.

As of this morning, six temporary relief centres (PPS) remain activate in Sibu.

In Mukah, 528 individuals are taking shelter at five PPS centres there, compared with 501 evacuees last night.

Meanwhile, APM reports show a general decline in flood victims across Sarawak with one PPS in Miri now deactivated, indicating an improvement in the flood situation in the State.

Currently, 5,567 flood and landslide evacuees from 1,662 families are now seeking shelter at 33 PPS across Sarawak. – DayakDaily
