Sibu mosques adhere to SOP during Friday prayers

SIBU, June 12: Friday prayers at seven of the eight mosques here was successfully held where the standard operating procedure was adhered to by the congregations.

The seven mosques were Masjid An-Nur at Jalan Awang Ramli Amit, Masjid Al-Muhajirin in Kpg Sentosa, Masjid Darul Husna in Sibujaya, Masjid Babusalamin in Kpg Jeriah, Masjid Darul Amilin in Taman Permai, Masjid Darul Istiqamahin Jalan Sukun, and Masjid Darul Halim in Kpg Bahagia Jaya.

Sibu Crime Prevention and Community Policing Department head DSP Ariffin Bahar said the other mosque, Al-Qadim is still closed for renovation.


Mosques throughout the country are allowed to hold Friday prayers starting today under a set of strict rules.

The rules include limiting the number of worshipers to one-third of the prayer hall capacity or 40 people in certain places, wearing face mask, bringing own prayer mat, temperature scanning and recording of personal particulars like name and contact number.

He said police enforcement team are stationed at these mosque to ensure SOP compliance set by the State Islamic Council.

Citing Masjid An-Nur as an example, he said the congregation is limited to 50 persons and five policemen are present to ensure the SOP is adhered to. —DayakDaily
